A great option for those with access to ethanol blended fuels!"
BMW P700
Switzer has been teasing its BMW development program for several months now. The first fruits of work put into the platform arrived in the form of a high-performance, stainless-steel exhaust system that helped M5 owners hear the twin-turbo V8′s sing from inside the cabin. “BMW actually pumps engine noise into the cabin through the stereo on the new M5s,” explains Neil Switzer, Tym’s brother and Switzer’s primary performance consultant. “If I buy a twin-turbo V8, I want to hear the twin-turbo V8. The Switzer exhaust gave us just enough sound through the less-restrictive mufflers, and the larger-diameter tubing increased the maximum amount of air we were able to move through the engine.”
The new Switzer exhaust combines with high-flow drop-in air filters and a removable engine control module that works in concert with the factory systems to coax higher boost levels from the BMW’s twin turbos. “It’s a great solution for BMW clients who want to keep their cars mostly stock or have warranty concerns,” explains Neil. The combination of hardware and software tweaks boosts the 2013 BMW M5′s output from the factory’s 560 claimed hp and 502 lb-ft of torque to nearly 700 hp and 640 lb-ft at the crank. This is a huge improvement that can be felt in every gear, but particularly on long pulls like those found the Texas Mile or Airstrip Attack runway events.
“After the Ultimate Street Edition, we really wanted to continue to focus on usable, ‘no-excuses’ type cars,” explains Tym. “This P700 M5 package gives you that. It has the full factory emissions controls, it runs on pump gas, and it sounds exactly the way you’d expect a car like this to sound.”Like the P600 GTR program, then (which we called “the GTR Nissan should have built”), you could this P700 M5 as the M5 BMW should have built! Neil is also quick to add that the new Switzer P700 PKG can also be seen as “a great ‘first-step’ tuning program for customers who want more power from their M5s, but who either haven’t committed to further upgrades and bigger power, or who might want to put the car back to stock for a lease return, for example.”

R35 GTR Nissan

Porsche builds some of the finest sports cars in the world, but without the Carrera GT, the brand doesn’t currently have a wild, world-beating exotic. Apparently RUF, a highly regarded aftermarket Porsche tuner, saw that gap in the market, so it went ahead and built its own.
2005 AC Schnitzer Tension Concept BMW
The wheels are also a new development: lightweight “Forged Wheel” with bi-colour finish embodies an apparent contradiction: reduction in weight with at the same time the largest possible diameters and widths.
The TENSION is fitted with wheels size 10.0J x 20″ all round. The offsets of -12 on the front and -2 on the rear allow tyres of size 285/30 ZR 20 and 325/25 ZR 20.
To improve driving dynamics the TENSION has been equipped with an adjustable racing suspension. As well as lowering by 30 mm, the spring and damper rates have been clearly modified towards sporting performance. Furthermore antiroll bar kits and the specially developed strut brace in aluminium-carbon combination have been used.
The TENSION body conversion is absolutely breathtaking, and is totally dedicated to optimising the aerodynamics. A further focal point of the development was the improvement of the air supply and extraction for the power plant and braking system.

In comparison to the M6 a 50 mm wider body is the result of the complete conversion. At a glance: bonnet with power bulge, front skirt with large air intake, front wings with air outlet openings and 3 chromed ribs with integrated flashers, striking side skirts with large air shaft, rear skirt incl. unique underfloor wing construction with exchangeable diffuser, exchangeable rear wing.

The basis for the extensive conversion could only be one vehicle: the 507 HP BMW M6, which underwent a performance upgrade as the first development stage. Optimising the entire engine management system and fitting a new AC Schnitzer exhaust manifold system with special catalyst, sports rear silencer with chromed tailpipe trims in right/left combination in “Sports Trim Design” help the TENSION achieve an incredible 406 kW / 552 HP. The Sports Trim Design will also shortly be included in the AC Schnitzer sports rear silencer range exclusively for the new BMW M vehicles.
Scion CT Tuning
Scion tC is a sport compact introduced by Toyota in 2004 as a concept car under its recently introduced Scion brand name. The Scion tC was designed to appeal to the Generation Y market. They hoped to do so by making standard features numerous and optional features extremely easy to add. The Scion tC is generally considered Toyota’s successor to the Celica whose production ended with the 2005 model year.
The Scion tC uses the chassis of the Avensis which is sold in the European market, and the Camry’s 2.4 L 2AZ-FE I4 engine. Its low price (base MSRP of US$16,715 for the 2006 model) is a major feature, as well as the pure pricing marketing style that Toyota has adopted.
The name tC does not fit in with its stablemates the xA and xB because the name xC has already been taken by Volvo for its XC70 and XC90 models. According to Scion, tC stands for “Touring Coupe.”

Release Series Vehicles
Beginning in late Spring 2004, Scion launched the Release Series (RS) line, limited quantities of their current vehicles pre-packaged with individual numbered badging, exclusive accessories and other special features. Limited edition vehicles from a marketing standpoint were used to create a buzz for the brandname, with their exterior colors tending to be loud or bright hues (i.e. orange, yellow, red, blue, green). Because of the growing popularity of the Scion product line and the scarce production runs (most dealers only get 2-3 of each RS model), these limited edition vehicles quickly sell out.
Preordering is available at each dealership on a first-come, first-served basis. To the customers benefit, Scion’s “Pure Price” MSRP bounds dealerships against market-demand vehicle mark-up. Naturally, resale values of Release Series vehicles command a premium because of their packaged options and scarcity.

In early 2006, a recall was issued for some 2005 and 2006 tCs due to the possibility of the glass wind deflector being shattered by debris.
Owners were requested to bring in their vehicles to have a shatter resistant film installed.
In late 2006, a recall was issued for 29,542 2005 and 2006 tCs due to the possibility of the side airbags deploying as a result of slamming the door forcefully. The greatest risk occurs when doors are shut while the ignition is in the on position or when the door is shut within 90 seconds of the ignition being turned from on to off. Owners of potentially affected tCs can call 1-866-548-1851. The recall identifier is SSC 60H.
Tuning Up Your Engine
Tuning Up Your Engine
Basic tune-ups on classic cars have not changed much over the years. As the technology gets better, we do find that certain aspects of the tune-up don’t have to happen as often as they did in the past. Regardless, a tune-up should not be overlooked, as other than changing your oil, a tune-up is the most important thing you can do for your vehicle. This will help to keep your Lowrider running as smoothly as possible and will allow you to get the most life out of your engine.
The old rule on plugs was that they needed to be replaced about every 7,000 miles, but with today’s technologies; you can go up to 100,000 miles before having to replace them. Performing a basic tune-up to your ride is not rocket science either ― you can do it with minimal effort and a dedicated afternoon of sweat.
Here are the items you should focus on when performing a basic tune-up: spark plugs and plug wires, distributer cap and rotor, air filter and fuel filter, and an oxygen sensor, depending on whether your engine is a carbureted or an Efi system. Once you have completed everything on your basic tune-up checklist and topped all of your fluids off, your vehicle should be running as good as new. Now follow along, as we tackle this basic tune and get our Lowrider ready to hit boulevard!
1. The tune-up line up.
2. Our engine was ready to be tuned up.
3. After breaking our engine in with Lucas oil, we changed out the oil on the engine and topped it off using the same Lucas brand synthetic oil.
4. You should always check your fluids and make sure that you’re topped off. Doing so will help you to know if your engine is leaking, or in some cases, burning excessive oil.
5. Engine coolant is key for any engine to function properly. To make sure that your car is not running without coolant, check the coolant level only when the engine is cooled and the radiator has no pressure from the heat, as it can cause major burns!
6. The AC Delco plugs were removed.
7. As you can see, this car was running a bit rich and needed to have these spark plugs replaced.
8. After gapping the E3 plugs, they were ready to be installed. With a double spark, these plugs will help the engine run well. To find out the right plug gap, you can ask your local parts store.
9. With most sparkplug changes, it’s recommended to change out the cap and rotor on the distributor.
10. After painting the distributor cap to match, we bolted it back on the HEI distributor.
11. When the cap is back on, you take one plug wire off at a time, so you do not cross them and get a misfire.
12. After running your spark plug wire, make sure that your spark plug wire clips on to assure that the car is getting the full spark.
13. A clean element will keep the carb running well. After inspecting this air cleaner, it was ready to be bolted back on.
14. Tightening down the air cleaner will keep unwanted dirt from getting sucked into the carburetor.
15. After a couple of hours of work, this engine was ready to hit the boulevard!
Lucas Octane Booster
In this month’s Lowrider Garage “Tip of the month” series we talk about Lucas’ Lucas Octane Booster. Octane boost is an easy way to help your engine run better. The higher the octane number, the more compression the fuel can withstand before detonating. In broad terms, fuels with a higher octane rating are used in high-compression engines that generally have higher performance. Use of gasoline with low octane numbers may lead to the problem of engine knocking. The Lucas octane booster in a bottle will help get rid of the unwanted knocking.
The Lucas Octane Booster has been tested and proven to deliver three times more boost than most other brands. Lucas Octane Booster is a Genuine Performance Enhancer! Tested and proven to deliver three times more boost than most other brands. It’s safe for turbos, oxygen sensors and catalytic converters. Stops knocks, and raises Mpg in high compression engines.
One 15 oz. bottle treats up to 25 gallons of fuel. Not street legal. Safe for any gasoline engine.
Key Benefits
1. Safe for turbos, oxygen sensors and catalytic converters.
2. Suitable for use in fuel injected and carbureted engines.
3. Provides more boost than most other brands.
4. Promotes clean fuel burn for fewer emissions.
